You can find us in Westport, a small town on the West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island. Our address is 72 Queen Street, which is a mere 100 metres from the Westport Information Centre and Post Office. Many years of restoration have created our stately and special atmosphere here at Trip inn, and it’s still going on.
Trip Inn Hostel offers both shared and private accommodation for guests and backpackers visiting Westport, and is situated in a quiet side street within easy walking distance to all shopping and evening entertainment.
Originally a stately gentleman’s residence built in the late 1860s, it is now protected under the NZ Historic Places Trust. We were winners of the Westport “1998 Property Improvement Award” – something we cherish with great passion.
The building occupies beautiful gardens (with room for tents), with immaculate woodwork and intricate pressed tin ceilings that create a very unique atmosphere.
We offer large common rooms, a fully equipped new kitchen, modern laundry and some of our accommodations are in the oldest and most historical parts of the building – great for backpackers in Westport who are looking to visit a classical location on the South Island.
More recent additions provide for double and twin rooms, some with an ensuit, while a new building with its own toilet and shower block contains 6 units suitable for families or groups.
Described by many travelers and Westport backpackers as their most ‘home like’ experience away from home, Trip Inn caters for the budget conscious independent visitor, as well as families and small to large size groups. Flexibility is provided with our 80 beds over 22 rooms accommodating 2, 4, 5, 6 or 8 persons.
We cater for backpackers in Westport and all beds are made up, but can also supply towels when required. All rooms are heated in winter, and we provide some free Wi-Fi on check in.
With options of shared or private rooms, and even a small area available for camping, Trip Inn is an ideal choice for guests of all kinds. Spacious common rooms with cosy fires invite social interaction between guests, while the TV/Video lounge with a large flat-screen, allows for reflecting on the holiday or the enjoyment of a good movie with our large collection of DVDs. Why stay in a sterile motel, when you can enjoy the company and information from fellow travellers?
Everything from guided tours, white water rafting, adventure caving, horse trekking, surfing lessons and coaching, mountain biking, scenic tours, kayaking, underworld rafting, cave walks, rafting and jet boating, day-time walks and overnight tramps are all available in and around Westport and our neighbouring National Parks and Forests. Trip Inn Hostel is a great place to base yourself and explore, or just relax in our beautiful gardens.
